Depok-Water is a vital resource for human life. Amid increasing pressure on clean water availability, sustainable water management is a key issue that requires attention from various parties, including the educational sector. The Universitas Indonesia (UI), through its Vocational Education Program, is demonstrating its active role in the water management campaign through various practical and educational initiatives in conjunction with the commemoration of World Water Day 2024.

In commemoration of World Water Day on March 22, 2024, the UI Vocational initiated a series of activities aimed at raising awareness among the entire academic community about the importance of preserving and conserving water. One concrete step taken was the provision of free drinking water facilities to promote the importance of clean water access for all campus residents, while also maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the academic environment. Furthermore, the UI Vocational consistently maintains the installation and drainage systems to ensure they remain efficient and leak-free, and has introduced the use of sensor-based automatic faucets that minimize water waste by ensuring it only flows when needed.

The policies implemented by UI Vocational are also supported by several university policies related to water conservation, including the principle of efficient water use, environmental preservation through the installation of water management technology, and the reuse of rainwater for non-consumptive activities such as watering plants and flushing toilets. All of these programs are part of UI Vocational efforts to become an environmentally friendly, green campus.

The involvement of the academic community is also key to creating a culture of water conservation. Lecturers, students, and educational staff are encouraged to practice responsible behavior in their daily activities, such as turning off water taps properly, not wasting water, and using water optimally.

The initiative taken by UI Vocational to commemorate World Water Day is clear evidence that universities serve not only as centers of education but also as agents of social change in efforts to conserve natural resources. These simple, consistent steps are expected to ensure water availability not only for the current generation but also for future generations.
