Depok-To expand its global network and improve the quality of vocational education in Indonesia, the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program conducted an academic visit to two leading Japanese universities, Osaka University and Kansai University, on July 22, 2025 and July 24, 2025. The visit was attended by lecturers and students from the Master of Applied Creative Industries and Media Production study program. Their presence aimed to explore international collaboration in the fields of teaching, research, and community service.

At Osaka University, the UI Vocational delegation was warmly welcomed by academics from the Graduate School of Human Sciences, namely Saori Yasumoto, Ph.D. and Dr. Takahiro Ota. Meanwhile, at Kansai University, remarks were delivered by Ikeda Keiko, Ph.D. as the representative of International Affairs, and Kenichi Nishioka, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Business and Commerce. A number of renowned professors were also in attendance, including Jungwook Shim, Ph.D., Nakamura Mitsuo, Ph.D., and Tokutsune Yasuyuki, Ph.D.

The visit included various agendas, including inbound and outbound programs, as well as intensive discussions regarding potential cross-institutional collaboration. Several forms of collaboration being explored include guest lecture exchanges, joint classes, and a special continuing education program for Associate Degree students at UI Vocational School and Kansai University. Furthermore, community service activities will be held with Osaka University in October 2025, and joint research between UI Vocational School, Osaka University, and Kansai University, scheduled to begin in August 2025.

“We were warmly welcomed and delighted to see the enthusiasm from Osaka University and Kansai University in opening up concrete collaboration opportunities. Furthermore, we were given the opportunity to introduce vocational education in Indonesia to students at each university,” said Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., Head of the Media Production Study Program and one of the accompanying lecturers.

Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, also expressed his appreciation for the visit as a strategic step in strengthening the internationalization of vocational education. “The partnership with these two international universities is a concrete example of the implementation of an adaptive vocational curriculum based on global practices. This activity opens up broad collaboration opportunities in research, teaching, and community service, which will have a direct impact on improving the competency of UI Vocational graduates,” said Padang.

Through this exploration of international cooperation, UI Vocational hopes that all collaborative plans can be realized well and provide a real contribution to the development of vocational education, both at the national and international levels.
