The Cirebon Tax Festival 2024 National Tax Competition was attended by hundreds of participants from various universities in Indonesia. The competition process, which was held online, began with a preliminary round containing forty questions related to basic taxation with a time of 45 minutes. Furthermore, Nabilah and her team successfully advanced to the semifinals and worked on five essay questions containing calculations with a time of two minutes per question. Finally, the final round was closed through a debate with a motion that was drawn before the debate began. Nabilah and her team received a motion regarding the impact of the rupiah and raw material prices after the 12% VAT increase which will be enforced starting January 1, 2025.

Nabilah added that the preparation for the final round was to anticipate the motions that might be debated. Next, they searched for journals, legal bases, and other data to create arguments for and against the motion. “We also paid attention to the arguments or opinions presented by the opposing team, so that when the opposing team provided incorrect information, it would be our provision to attack the opposing team,” explained Nabilah.

Director of UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said that the competition activity is one of the opportunities that students need to participate in. According to him, the competition will provide new experiences for students to apply classroom learning directly. Padang said, “UI Vocational continues to encourage students to actively participate in positive activities, whether through competitions, organizations, to research or community service. Curriculum development with practitioners is one strategy to provide teaching that is in accordance with current industry needs.”

Nabilah said that the various courses studied on campus greatly influenced their participation in the competition. “This competition has greatly deepened our knowledge as taxation students. We are also supported by knowledge from various courses such as Personal Income Tax, VAT and PPnBM, Corporate Income Tax, Taxation Systems and Procedures, PBB, to Audits and Investigations,” concluded Nabilah.
