Depok-Records and Archives Management Study Program Student Association, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a national seminar with the theme “The Role of Archives Digitalization in Sustainability and GreenMetric UI” on November 20, 2023. Located at the UI Vocational Auditorium, the seminar was attended by more than 200 participants. The national seminar invited Dr. Kandar, MAP, Deputy for Archives Conservation, National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI), as speaker.
On this occasion, Kandar said that archive management could be done digitally, so that paper use could be reduced. Coinciding with Tree Planting Day which falls in November, the holding of this national seminar is an event to welcome government programs related to the green economy. He said, “Digitalization of archives is an important step in achieving sustainability. By converting physical documents to digital, paper usage can be reduced significantly. Digitization also enables easier and more efficient access to records, reduces the need for physical transportation, and reduces the environmental impact resulting from paper production and disposal.”
In accordance with the permanent program held by UI, namely UI GreenMetric, the Records and Archives Management study program participates in improving the health of a green environment in the world through disseminating information regarding archive digitization. UI GreenMetric is an innovative concept from UI which is widely known internationally as the first ranking of universities in the world based on campus environmental management.
