Depok-The trend of subscribers on streaming applications continues to increases every year. No exception, one of the paid streaming platforms, Netflix, which provides various television series and films from various corners of the world. Based on 2023 Quarterly Earnings data, Netflix had 232.5 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2023. Various television series and films arouse a large audience, for example, such as The Glory, fourth season of Stranger Things, live action from the One Piece series, the documentary Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso, to Cigarette Girl which managed to occupy the 10th most popular non-English language Netflix series with 1.6 million views over November 6-12, 2023.

This phenomenon is an opportunity for the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) to increase insight into over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Media Production students had the opportunity to make an industrial visit to the Netflix Indonesia office on Friday (16/11/2023). During the visit, Putri Silalahi, Head of Public Relations for Netflix Indonesia, who is also a lecturer in Media Production, invited students to get to know the use of digital marketing through advertising and social media to market various products owned by Netflix.
Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., who was also present to accompany the students, explained that the company visit program was carried out so that students could get to know the OTT industry in Indonesia before getting involved in it. “We provide a platform for students to visit companies and can use it as a place for their practice, whether it’s course practice or independent internship practice or end-of-semester internships. Apart from that, this activity can also support students to develop knowledge in an industry that is rapidly changing,” said Rangga.

On this occasion, students were also invited to tour the work processes behind the Netflix Indonesia office. Students learned a lot about the OTT business process, looking at trends and the Netflix market in Indonesia, as well as how to increase user interest in films and series that have not yet been broadcast, are currently broadcast, or will be broadcast on Netflix.
