Depok-The Vocational Education Program of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) is well aware of the importance of international involvement in the learning process. Not only for students, but also for lecturers. The need for internationalization is also supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia through a plan to develop vocational tertiary institutions by the Directorate General of Vocational Education. This can also be a forum for students and lecturers to develop their insights globally, train a competitive spirit, and expand international networks.
In line with this, UI Vocational is again expanding international cooperation with the International Management Institute (IMI) educational institution and the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training (SFUVET) training provider institution. This international collaboration was agreed upon by both parties through the signing of a cooperation document during a working visit to Switzerland conducted by the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D and the Deputy Director for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Deni Danial Kesa, MBA., Ph.D, on June 4-13, 2023.
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SFUVET was carried out between the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program and the Director General of SFUVET, Barbara Fontanellaz. Simultaneously during the visit, an Agreement of Implementation (AoI) with IMI was also signed by the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program with IMI’s CEO and Director of Partner Schools, Professor Gavin R Caldwell.
Collaboration with IMI agreed on a Credit Earning Program and Double Degree Program scheme (specifically the Applied Bachelor Tourism Business Management study program) which can be attended by all UI Vocational students and alumni. They will later be able to attend lectures for six semesters at UI Vocational, one semester at IMI Switzerland, and an internship for one semester in Switzerland with incentives. There are five scientific options, namely BA (Hons) in Global Business/Marketing Management; BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Entrepreneurship; BA (Hons) in International Hotel & Tourism Management; BA (Hons) in International Hotel & Events Management; and BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Management.
Meanwhile, the collaboration between UI Vocational and SFUVET offers intensive training for educators (teachers and lecturers) to learn more about the vocational curriculum system in preparing lesson plans. In the latest education system, a teacher or lecturer is required to be able to provide active, interactive, creative and innovative learning. The training program can not only be attended by UI Vocational academics, but is also open to the public.
“Internationalization is currently an opportunity that needs to be opened as wide as possible. UI Vocational is committed to continuing to provide the best teaching climate for students and lecturers. One of them is through international cooperation in the scope of education, training, community service, and research. We are doing this internationalization effort to develop a global atmosphere for UI Vocational academics to increase competitiveness,” said Padang.
