Depok-Indie is one of the music that is favored by many teenagers in Indonesia. Indie is a movement by a musician to produce their own music independently. Indie music also presents different and fresh music because the lyrics of the resulting song contain many feelings that the activists want to convey. Several genres of music are included in indie, include post punk, math rock, indie pop, bedroom pop, and others.

Sandhewa Beryl Sinatria is a student of the Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) who is pursuing the indie music path. Beryl started learning to produce music since 2017. Until now, the songs he produces are released without a label, or independently through various music platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music. The songs are mostly alternative pop or bedroom pop genres.

Beryl made his debut in 2020 by releasing a single titled ‘Something More’. Furthermore, in early 2021, Beryl again released a single entitled ‘December’. “For some projects, I often produce my own music. However, it is possible that I also receive opinions from those closest to me to judge the music I am working on,” Beryl explained.

Apart from his own works, Beryl also often co-produces music for other musicians, such as Maccentus, Harsya Mashaga, and DJ Vuai. They are also part of a music collective called HENBOYZ. “After the first single of 2020, I collaborated with Maccentus to release a song called ‘Fall’. In the song I contributed as a lyricist and filled the vocals,” said Beryl.

In producing a piece of music, inspiration, creativity, and emotion are needed that can be poured into a song. Some of the musicians who became his inspiration were Keshi, Taylor Swift, Jeremy Zucker, and Rex Orange County.

At the end of 2021, Beryl released a mini album titled ‘forevermore’ which contains three songs, including ‘i’m so glad we met, promise we’ll see eachother again’, ‘forevermore’, and ‘tulip’. Beryl also explained that the songs in the mini album are about the fear of being left behind by those closest to you.

“As a Multimedia Broadcasting student, I can learn many things to develop my interest in music. One of them is that I learned how to produce a work on various platforms,” said Beryl.
