National education aims to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe and fear God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens. Universities continuously develop a democratic academic climate in order to support the implementation of the learning process that directs students to become intelligent, comprehensive, and competitive people. For this reason, the UI Vocational Education Program held a Student Learning Orientation (OBM) activity on Tuesday-Thursday, August 2-4, 2016 which took place at the UI Vocational Program Building. With the holding of this activity, students are expected not only to pursue knowledge in their fields, but also to develop their soft skills so that they become independent, full of initiative, work carefully, full of responsibility and persistent. This ability can be obtained by students through formal debriefing in the learning, co-curricular, and extracurricular curriculum. However, not all students are willing and able to become successful learners. Often students with high academic scores do not take advantage of the opportunity to use their time in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. On the other hand, students who are active in student organizations and soft skills development activities do not get high academic scores. Meanwhile, in the era of free competition, graduates are needed who have balanced hard and soft skills. Therefore, in each university, it is necessary to identify students who can do both and the best need to be rewarded as outstanding students.

National education functions to develop abilities and shape the character and civilization of a dignified nation in order to educate the life of the nation.
