This competition was attended by 350 participants from students and the general public.

This activity, which is intended to build an “active culture” among students and the general public, also provides ticket sales to the Indonesian Cancer Child Foundation.

Data from the University of Sydney recently revealed that sitting for too long, which is more than 11 hours a day, increases the potential for death by more than 40%, heart attack, diabetes, obesity and stroke. The presence of today’s technologies such as televisions, tablets, smartphones, laptops and so on forces its users to be “active in a prolonged sitting position”.

According to researchers at the University of Missouri, in the United States, sitting for a long time will actually increase depression due to the lack of flowing blood flow, the absence of freshness hormones circulating in the human brain.

“Relying on the results of the research, the UI Vocational Communication Program organizes physical activities running around the UI campus. This activity is packaged attractively, to be able to compete with the ‘temptation’ of technology that is so strong in the grip of modern human activities in Indonesia today,” said UI Vocational Permanent Lecturer Devie Rahmawati in a written statement to Okezone, Monday (5/26/2014).

The participants, at the finish line (UI Vocational gate) were pelted with holly powder accompanied by a jet of water. This activity is a symbol of efforts to make many parties aware of the dangers of the seating culture (Seating is Killing).

“Not only that, from various researches, it is also explained that students who are active in physical movements in sports will usually have a score of 23 percent better than students who are less active in physical movements. Students who were active were also 53 percent more diligent in attending school and 28 percent more able to control themselves not to get involved in fights,” said Devie.

The proceeds from the sale of tickets for the activity were donated to the Indonesian Cancer Foundation considering that the incidence of cancer in children is generally rare compared to the incidence of cancer in adults. Cancer in children is recorded as two to four percent of the total incidence of cancer in humans. And cancer in children can actually be treated if treated from an early stage.

Clorine, which was initiated by students of the UI Vocational Communication Program, wants more Indonesian children to be healthy and care about the younger brothers and sisters of the nation’s future leaders who are fighting cancer malignancy.

“It’s so exciting! This is also the first time at UI. If it can be made periodically again,” said Ajeng, a Clorine participant from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UI. The same thing was also conveyed by five participants from Surabaya. The activity was closed with the performance of special performances from DJ Unggul and Kamikasi (Vocational Music Lovers Community) which swept away the fatigue of the running participants.
