As an effort to increase student knowledge, especially in the field of research and the preparation of communication strategies, the UI Vocational Education Program held a Public Lecture “Big Data: Urgency and Its Utilization in Communication Strategies”. <\/strong>Dr. Komang B Aryasa, Head of Research of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk was present as a resource person at the Public Lecture held at the Auditorium of the Vocational Education Program of the University of Indonesia on March 13, 2018.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, Komang said that data is an important key in determining company strategy in various fields, including communication. In this digital era, people are increasingly familiar with smartphones and access various data every day. Data about what is accessed by the public is important to read market directions, cultural behaviors, and political preferences. “Big Data is a technology that shows everything in the ocean of information as the basis for making the right decisions,” said Komang. <\/p>\n

In this public lecture, it was explained that Big Data has 3V characters, namely Volume (describing the volume of data), Variety, and Velocity. Big Data is very helpful for communicators to map the character of their target audience precisely so that they are able to produce effective communication strategies. <\/p>\n

By participating in this public lecture, it is hoped that students will gain insight into Big Data and be able to use it in practice in the lecture process.
