Depok-The Multimedia Broadcasting study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), held a guest lecture on Tuesday (03\/18\/2025) by presenting an inspiring speaker, namely, Gregorius Anggertimur Lanang Tinarbuko, a creative storyteller<\/em> who is currently studying at Queensland University of Technology. On that occasion, Anggertimur discussed creative thinking<\/em> and its application in creative storytelling<\/em>, namely a storytelling approach that is not only interesting, but also leaves a deep impression on the audience. <\/p>\n

According to him, creative thinking<\/em> involves the ability to visualize unique ideas or concepts, and record ideas that arise as soon as possible. In the process, a person needs to see sensitivity to the environment in order to understand the situation, references, and audience used. Furthermore, this process develops into creative storytelling<\/em>, which is abstract ideas transformed into stories that move emotions. “Creative storytelling<\/em> is an idea into a touching narrative. This is because storytelling<\/em> is not just telling a story, but the art of conveying a message in a way that is impressive and relevant to the audience,” said Anggertimur. <\/p>\n

Furthermore, he revealed that a good story is one that is close to the audience’s life\u2014either what they have experienced, are feeling, or dream about. Anggertimur said, “The key to storytelling<\/em> is emotional closeness, both through visuals and writing. In a story that is built, it should be able to arouse feelings, build personal connections with the audience, and inspire actions to be taken.” <\/p>\n

Anggertimur gave an example of a mobile phone product that has a campaign with the tagline<\/em> “Masterpiece in Sight<\/em>“. The goal is to highlight the excellence of computational photography resulting from collaboration with third parties. In the campaign, the brand uses a storytelling<\/em> strategy with interesting carousel<\/em> and reels<\/em> content. In addition, the use of the hashtag #YangDiabaiMata invites the audience to be more sensitive to small moments that are often missed. As a result, this campaign has succeeded in touching people’s awareness to appreciate simple things more through photography and stories. <\/p>\n

Head of Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Penny Meliaty Hutabarat, S.Sos., M.S.M., said that storytelling<\/em> is a competency that students need to have to convey messages to audiences through various mediums. “The power of storytelling<\/em> can change perspectives because creative storytelling<\/em> is the art of changing messages into inspiring stories. Through the combination of imagination, sensitivity, and proper execution, a story can build emotions and deep impressions to bring about change.
