Depok-Organizing an event<\/em> that is planned, prepared and packaged carefully can minimize risks in its implementation. That is why event<\/em> management is studied in universities, such as in the Creative Business study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia, and at Humber College, Canada. Interest in managing this special event moved Dewa Putu Tubagus Adi Sanjaya (Adi), a Creative Business student at UI Vocational, to dig deeper into knowledge at Humber College.<\/p>\n

As one of the countries that is considered friendly to immigrants and offers quality education, Canada has an attraction as a study destination for Indonesian students, including Adi. He chose to study in the Event Management study program, Humber College, and passed the selection for the 2023 Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. He is there until December 2023.<\/p>\n

According to him, learning in Canada tends to be specific and focused on the main objectives which can be seen from several courses he took while at Humber College, namely Risk Management in the Event Industry<\/em>; Public Relations, Fundraising, & Sponsorship<\/em>; Catering Management<\/em>; Effective Leadership & Human Resources<\/em>; and Introduction to Event Management<\/em>. For him, the learning experience there can later be developed to manage a business as one of the learning outcomes in the Creative Business study program. Studying at the campus, he said, made him more confident when managing an event<\/em>, from planning, preparation, event<\/em> production process, to post-event<\/em> evaluation.<\/p>\n

He gave an example of the final project from the Public Relations, Fundraising & Sponsorship<\/em> course, which started with making a sponsorship<\/em> proposal for the “Marathon of the Year” activity to the company ASICS Canada. In this proposal, Adi made a sponsorship<\/em> offer of 5,000 Canadian dollars to ASICS with a counter-performance that they would receive worth 15,000 Canadian dollars.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis figure is the result of calculations that have been calculated previously. One of them is the videotron valuation on the billboard<\/em> which includes the ASICS logo. The billboard<\/em> was located in Yonge-Dundas Square, one of Toronto’s busiest streets with a valuation of $0.00325 per head who saw the ad. Not only billboard<\/em>, the ASICS logo will also be included in various other advertising instruments, such as on websites, social media, posters, banners<\/em>, e-mail newsletters<\/em>, adlibs,<\/em> and merchandise<\/em>,” said Adi.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, Adi also made a proposal to raise funds for the non-profit organization “Youth Without Shelter”, which is an organization that focuses on young people who do not have a place to live. He raised funds by setting the ticket cost for the “Marathon of the Year” activity at 15 Canadian dollars per person with an estimated visitor count of up to 5,000 people, so that the funds collected were estimated at 75,000 Canadian dollars. Not only that, fundraising was also obtained from profits from sales of food booths<\/em> and merchandise<\/em> at the marathon event.<\/p>\n

The experience of studying in the country with the maple<\/em> leaf symbol led him to network with foreign students from abroad. One of them is obtained through participation as a volunteer in several events<\/em>. Another interesting experience for Adi while in Canada was learning about culture through various country festivals which he attended many while at Humber College.<\/p>\n

Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, explained that the opportunity to take part in the IISMA program like the one Adi participated in will broaden students’ insight in developing their competencies. \u201cI recommend this program to students, as did Adi.
