Depok-Ahead of closing in 2022, Universitas Indonesia (UI) students from the Vocational Education Program gave UI a prize through the karate sport. Aida Shafa Kamilah, from the Tourism study program, won 2nd place at the International Open Tournament Championship Walikota Surabaya Cup 2022 (15-18 December 2022) for the Kumite 68kg Senior Women category. The championship, which was held at the Bung Tomo Sports Hall, Surabaya, was attended by 2,041 athletes from Indonesia, Malaysia, Timor Leste and India.

For this victory, the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said, “Aida’s achievements make the Universitas Indonesia very proud. Not only that, Aida also contributed to giving her medals for Indonesia. I hope that Aida can continue to make UI and Indonesia proud in other upcoming matches.”

One of the preparations Aida made for the championship was regular training with her karate team. “Before, I spent more time on independent training because the training routine at the Dojo was hampered during the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2021, so I started doing a lot of regular training again with other athletes in 2022,” said Aida.

Even though she was recovering, Aida still dared to show off and win the championship. He was injured while preparing for the West Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV) match. The injuries to her ankles and joints (dislocations) made Aida more careful in preparing for the championship this time. In fact, she is also preparing to take part in the pre-qualification selection for the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in 2023.

“I evaluate myself because I also still have shortcomings. With the opportunity to take part in the PON prequalification, I am motivated to train harder and ready to compete again with other athletes,” said Aida.

As a fifth semester student, Aida will prepare to carry out internship activities as her obligation to complete her final project. Aida is interested in doing an internship as an event organizer, both in sports and other activities.

“The challenge I encountered in this championship was time management. While preparing for the championship, I was running the Semester Final Examination (UAS) week. Plus, most of the UAS that I did at UI Vocational was practical. So, I need to divide my time between practice and lectures,” said Aida.
