Depok-Two students from the Occupational Therapy study program in the Vocational Education Program at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), Dominggo Alberto Mosesta S. and Annisa Fitri Azzahra, won silver medals at the Edutalk Fair Competition 2026 some time ago. They won this achievement in the Education and Science Essay Competition category through their innovative idea called Audibraille, a learning medium designed to support more inclusive access to education for blind children.
The Edutalk Fair Competition is an annual competition organized by Eduact Creative Hub in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro. This competition provides a platform for students from various universities in Indonesia to share their ideas, thoughts, and innovations through several categories, including an essay contest.
The two presented a work entitled “Audibraille as a Solution for Inclusive Educational Accessibility for Blind Children at SLB A Karya Murni Medan.” Through this innovation, the two presented a learning medium in the form of a book that combines Braille with audio technology to support the learning process for blind children in a more interactive and inclusive way. Audibraille is designed by integrating Braille writing and audio buttons on each section of the learning material. When a button on a particular page is pressed, the device will produce an audio explanation that corresponds to the material being studied.

Dominggo said, “This combination allows blind children to learn by utilizing both senses: touch and hearing. This is expected to make the learning process more interactive, effective, and engaging, while also encouraging students’ independence in understanding the material.”
Audibraille is not only a learning aid, but also a demonstration of their commitment to the importance of providing accessible educational facilities for all students. This innovation is expected to become an alternative learning medium to support the creation of an inclusive, adaptive, and disability-friendly educational environment.
The two of them prepared for the competition for approximately three weeks. As a two-person team, they divided the tasks equally, from finding and reviewing references from various journals, compiling their scientific papers, preparing presentation materials, and practicing presenting their ideas to the panel of judges.
During the preparation process, the two received guidance from the Head of the Occupational Therapy Study Program and their supervisor, Muhammad Hidayat Sahid, S.K.M., M.Epid. This guidance helped Dominggo and Annisa refine the substance of their work, strengthen their arguments, and prepare their presentation for the final round.
The students’ success is the result of the learning process they underwent during their studies at the UI Vocational School. Through the Art and Science of Occupational Therapy course, students are equipped with an understanding of the importance of designing interventions and solutions centered on user needs. Meanwhile, the Information Technology course provides insight into the use of technology to create effective, adaptive, and accessible innovations, including for people with disabilities. The combination of these two fields became one of the foundations for their development of the Audibraille concept.
The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Dr. Safrin Arifin, SKM., S.St., M.Sc., expressed his appreciation for Dominggo and Annisa’s achievements. He believes these achievements demonstrate the ability of UI Vocational students to identify community needs and translate them into solution-oriented ideas. Safrin stated, “This achievement demonstrates that UI Vocational students are capable of generating ideas that stem from real community needs. We hope this achievement will inspire other students to continue working and contributing through meaningful innovation.”

Going forward, they both hope that Audibraille won’t remain a mere scientific idea. They want the concept to continue to be developed until it can be realized and implemented as a learning tool for blind children in various schools.
They are also committed to continuously developing their research and innovation skills, participating in various competitions that can provide a platform for generating real solutions for society. This achievement demonstrates that UI Vocational students are encouraged to develop social awareness and the ability to create innovations that address various challenges in society.
The Audibraille innovation also aligns with several targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The use of accessible learning media for visually impaired children supports SDG 4: Quality Education, specifically in ensuring inclusive, equitable education and providing learning opportunities for all. Furthermore, Audibraille contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by helping to reduce the barriers faced by people with disabilities in accessing learning materials. The combination of audio technology and Braille writing in one medium also reflects the spirit of SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through the development of inclusive technological innovations oriented to community needs.
