Depok-In an effort to strengthen academic integrity in higher education, the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program held a Training of Trainers (ToT) for students in preparation for the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB). Among the topics covered were anti-plagiarism and academic ethics in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The training, held on July 15, 2025, was led by Dr. Hendra Kaprisma, S.Hum., who explained plagiarism and the ethical limitations of using AI in academic writing.

In his presentation, Hendra stated the importance of internalizing the values of honesty and academic responsibility amidst technological advancements. He also reintroduced the 9 Cultural Values of the University of Indonesia as the basis for forming the academic character of the UI community, namely: Honesty, Justice, Trustworthiness, Dignity, Responsibility, Togetherness, Openness, Academic Freedom, and Compliance with Rules. “Plagiarism is not just about copying text, but also about how we respect the thought processes and work of others. In this technological era, the boundaries regarding the use of AI are increasingly blurred, so education and literacy in academic ethics are very important,” said Hendra.
The students were also invited to discuss the extent to which AI can be used to assist essay writing, the inclusion of AI as a reference, and how to maintain transparency in the use of technology. According to Hendra, using AI without explicitly acknowledging its contribution is categorized as plagiarism, while use with acknowledgement can be part of legitimate academic practice.

The training was also interactively packaged with various group activities, such as “If-Then,” “Group Charades,” and “Plagiarism or Not?” games, to help participants understand the complexities of plagiarism in practice. Furthermore, students were introduced to several key features of Turnitin and iThenticate, UI’s primary similarity-checking tools for academic papers.
The UI Vocational affirms its commitment to creating an academic ecosystem that upholds honesty, responsibility, and openness. Through this training, students who will serve as mentors during the PKKMB activities are expected to adopt an academic culture of integrity and be prepared to face the challenges of technological development. Furthermore, the Integrity Zone is closely linked to an understanding of anti-plagiarism and academic ethics. This is because all are related to the values of honesty, integrity, and responsibility, both in bureaucratic and academic environments.
