The Public Relations Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) students won 2nd place in the Prime category at the Communication Interest Festival (Comminfest 2021). Comminfest is a National Competition in the field of communication held by Universitas Atmajaya Jogjakarta, on March 8 – May 1, 2021. Axel Brilliant Effendi, Velma Widhi Adriyani, and Aisyah Muftian Mursyid, who are students of Public Relation Class 2020, are members of the PROMIND group with the creative proposal #KasihTahuKami, a campaign against sexual violence for mental health.

Axel Brilian Effendi, a member of the PROMIND team, explained that in this competition, his team had gone through three stages of selection, namely Creative Proposal – Video Campaign – Case Study. “In this competition, we are challenged to spread sexual education which can be a way to create a safe environment without sexual violence.”
Axel explained that through the #KasihTahuKami movement, his team created a campaign program to raise public awareness about sexual violence in Indonesia. “The aim of this program is to invite the public to realize that sexual violence in Indonesia is still rife and reduce the stigma of society that it is a taboo issue and does not need to be disclosed. We put it in the form of a campaign video, with this movement, it is also hoped that it can become a forum for victims to gain peace and protection, and break the negative stigma of society about victims of sexual violence,” he said.
The PROMIND team won second place after going through the Study Case stage from the Mitra Wacana NGO regarding the issue of sexual violence against minors. Through the project campaign ‘Aku Jaga Diriku’, the team educated the public, especially children, about the importance of protecting sex organs from acts of sexual violence. The communication product carried out is an application “Mitra Wacana Peduli” in the form of a forum where victims of sexual violence can tell stories in writing and leave no traces of personal identity. It can also be accessed by the public with the aim of raising awareness of similar cases. In addition, other communication products provided include emergency call services that victims of sexual violence can contact.
“In the final stage, we are working on this project optimally. Therefore, the brief we designed is very neat so that it is comfortable to look at. When it was final, we were also very accustomed to handling case studies, because in several PR courses always discussed case studies and presented them well,” said Aisyah, a member of the PROMIND team.
Pijar Suciati, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of the Public Relations Study Program, said that the PR study program always encourages students to have the courage to compete. “I always say to the students, to dare to take part in the competition, it means that you have become a winner, for that the PR study program is proud,” said Pijar. Furthermore, she explained that by having the courage to compete, their confidence will grow and they will be trained to face the real case of public relations in the industry later. It is also a place to apply the knowledge and skills of students that have been acquired in lectures.
“The program prepared by the PROMIND team applies principles in the courses of Communication Program Planning, Social Marketing, PR Research Methods, and PR Visual Production. The curriculum with 70% practice and 30% theory applied to Vocational UI is expected to be able to facilitate students when dealing directly with cases in the field of public relations, one of which is by making campaigns,” said Pijar.[:]
