He won a gold medal in the men’s 500M+D Sprint number on Wednesday (Sep 29, 2021) at the Klemen Tinal Roller Sport Arena, Jayapura City, Papua, with a record time of 44,000 seconds.

Previously, on Tuesday (Sep 28, 2021) he won a silver medal in the men’s ITT (Individual Time Trial) 500 meters with a record time of 41,859 seconds. Mahesa will still compete for three other numbers in the Papua PON. To prepare for this PON, according to him, he has entered the training center from April to September 2021.

Mahesa said that being an athlete who can represent the province in a national event like this is a great pride, so he always strives to be the best. “Training hard and trying to give my best is my duty as an athlete. Being able to bring home the medal is a matter of pride and achievement for which I am very grateful,” said Mahesa.

Furthermore, he said that the main challenge was when he had to go through the entire process of training and preparation that went hand in hand with his obligations as a student of the 3rd semester UI Vocational Public Relations Study Program, “Wow, of course it is a big challenge to be able to undergo training along with a busy schedule with lectures. Moreover, at the UI Vocational, the practicum class schedule is very large because the curriculum contains 70% practice, so you have to be good at dividing your time and of course keeping yourself healthy,” said Mahesa.

Mahesa explained that the online learning system is very helpful for him in managing his time. “So, during the pandemic, we adhere to the Distance Learning system. There are distance learning that are real time (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous) learning through the E-learning Management System (EMAS) UI. This combination allows me to manage my time more optimally so that my obligations as an athlete and student can go hand in hand,” he said.

Prof. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo., DEA, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, said Vocational UI is certainly very proud of Mahesa’s achievements and appreciates that Mahesa continues to carry out his obligations as a student well. “In principle, we support every positive activity from students. Our students have varied talents ranging from achievements in academics, entrepreneurship, art, and sports. The field of science at UI Vocational which consists of health, social and administration fields allows students to collaborate cross disciplines and become more creative,” said Prof. Sigit.[:]
