Depok-Edo Maulana Effendi and An-Nissa Fazrieyah, Students of Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), won third place in the 2021 IT Fest competition organized by HIMAVO Micro IT Community Vocational School of IPB University, for Podcast competition branch. They participated in IT Fest 2021 with the theme “Zillenial Technology for a Better Future”. This national level competition is held from July to September 2021 virtually, followed by high school equivalent students and associate’s degree, applied bachelor, and bachelor level students throughout Indonesia.

Edo Maulana Effendi, the team leader, said that in the Podcast competition, they were asked to raise the theme “How Technology Impact Our Lives”. He and An-Nissa decided to present “Advanced Technology Makes Us Forget Ourselves”, which presented the situation before technology existed and the impact of technology on people’s lives.

This theme emerged from anxiety about the advancement of technological developments in the current era, so that sometimes people forget themselves and do not socialize with each other. According to him, in the past, when eating with family, people talked and shared experiences with each other. Now, people tend to use their smartphones more often, “Compared to chatting with each other,” said Edo.

The UI Vocational Education Program emphasizes lecture practices that can be carried out in the laboratory for these subjects. “For Multimedia Broadcasting students, for example, they can use the television lab which is designed like the television industry, and in the radio lab,” said Amelita Lusia, M.Si., Head of Public Relations and Information Office.

The podcast created by the two UI Vocational students contains the changes that occur as a result of the rapid development of technology in human life, for example in delivering messages, establishing relationships with other people, and other habits. “What we want to convey through the Podcast is that we must be able to maintain and control ourselves as technology continues to advance,” Edo explained.
