The Vocational Institute (LEMKASI) of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) held public relations and journalism training for the leadership and implementing elements of the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD). From the 170 participants, there were 70 leadership element participants who took part in the online training and 100 executive elements who received face-to-face training, using health protocols.

The training was opened by the Chief of the UI Vocational Institute, Dr. Diaz Pranita, Secretary of the Army Information Service, Infantry Colonel Mu’tammar, and Deputy Director for Resources, Venture and General Administration of the UI Vocational Education Program, Ir. Antony Sihombing, MPD., Ph.D., on Tuesday 1 September 2021, at the Auditorium of the Universitas Indonesia Student Activity Center (Pusgiwa). After attending the training, participants will go through a Public Relations certification test at the UI Professional Certification Institute (LSP) which has been standardized by the National Professional Certification Board (BNSP) of the Republic of Indonesia.

Dr. Diaz Pranita said that the training will be held for 14 days at the UI Vocational Education Program campus. The public relations training given to the leadership elements is in the fields of strategic public relations, digital public relations, branding, media relations, and communication in crisis. “For the implementers, this training was carried out with an emphasis on basic public relations, development of journalistic content, videography and photography, so that after participating in this training, participants can create creative, informative and ethically communicative content to be distributed through various media, both print media, electronically and online, including being able to make good quality photos and videos to document activities in their respective units,” she said.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the Army Information Service, Colonel Infantry Mu’tamar said that for the Indonesian Army, PR and journalism are currently felt to be very important. It can be seen from the public relations and journalism units in the Indonesian Army units ranging from the Military District Command (Kodim), Military Area Command (Korem), Regional Military Command (Kodam) levels, to the Indonesian Army headquarters, as well as in combat units. “Therefore, all Indonesian Army personnel are expected to have public relations and journalistic competence to carry out their duties, especially in terms of public communication. We hope that with this collaboration, the Indonesian Army can learn directly from UI professionals in the field of public relations,” said Mu’tamar.

Ir. Antony Sihombing, MPD., said that the Vocational Institute is a special work unit in the UI Vocational Education Program which one of its services is to provide training to professionals. “It is the second year that we have received the trust of the Indonesian Army to train the Military Resort Command Lighting (Penrem) and Regional Military Command (Kodam) in managing their public relations functions professionally, so that they become institutions capable of conveying trusted information to the public. Hopefully in the future the image of the Indonesian Army as a public institution that is trusted and close to the community will continue to be built. We hope that the cooperation between the Indonesian Army and the UI Vocational will be well established and develop. Not only in public relations training activities, but also other activities in the scope of teaching, training, and research in the future,” said Antony.[:]
