The purpose of education is to produce the Associate Expert in Physiotherapy who capable of providing services to develop, maintain and restore the movement and function of the body throughout the life span using the manual handling, motion improvement, equipment (physical, elektroterapeutis and mechanical), training functions, as well as communication and education.
Currently, the graduates has 85% potential to work in various units of government and private hospitals, special / education hospitals, clinic, spa, health center / sports center / fitness center, and foundations. Graduates are also prepared to work in various hospitals abroad.
Profession and Career Path for Graduates of Physiotherapy Studies Program
In accordance with Kepmenkes No.1363 of 2001:
“Physiotherapy is a form of health care aimed to individuals or groups to develop, maintain and restore the movement and function of the body throughout the life cycle using manual handling, motion improvement, equipment (physical, elektroterapeutis and mechanical), training and communication. ‘
According to the Ministry of Health, Physiotherapy is a health service that is intended for the individuals and groups in an effort to develop maintain and restore the movement and function of the body throughout the life cycle by using physical modalities, physical agents, mechanical, motion and communication.
The increasing number of applicants in physiotherapy majors due to the society’s demand for being physiotherapist in workforce. Being a physiotherapist is not only as servants in Hospital Medical Rehabilitation Unit but there are many more. For example, we may know Mathias Ibo, Indonesian Physiotherapy for national football team. Mathias is one of example physiotherapist that exposed by the media so he is publicly known. However, people called him as a doctor. Although physiotherapist and doctor are two different professions.
Physiotherapy is one of health sciences which have specialities in promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Normally, physiotherapy student will become a physiotherapist who works in the field of treatment and rehabilitation. There are still some areas of Physiotherapy that is untapped and untouched. According to Sri Mardiman, 2 untouched areas of physiotherapy are Sports Physiotherapy and Industry Physiotherapy. Sports Physiotherapy has begun explored and touched in the last 5 years while the industry physiotherapy founded one person who is the Consultant of Physiotherapist in one of the oil company in East Kalimantan. Based on tracer study, the graduates are 100% absorbed in all employment, while the physiotherapy and hospital management are 75% absorbed in the industry, the remaining of 30% continue to pursue a bachelor degree. The opportunity to become a civil servant (PNS) in the Ministry of Health is wide open. There are a lot of positions in the Ministry of Health that have educational background as a physiotherapist, an Occupational Therapist or a Expert Medical Recorder / Hospital Management.
The Vocational Education Program UI is in cooperation with the IFI (Physiotherapy Association of Indonesia). This professional association of physiotherapy was formed by all professions of Physiotherapy in 1961. It aims to introduce new profession to the public. In the development of organization and professionalism, IFI seeks to improve the competence standard of members with various education activities, scientific and community service. By the support of stakeholders, IFI seeks to provide the best ability for improving health and productivity of the society.
